Bulls On the Beach Brings Rodeo Action To the Sand

By Kelly Baughman

Put on your cowboy hat and head over to the Flora-Bama, the only Honky Tonk in the sand, for a jamboree with plenty of boots and bikinis to say good-bye to summer as they host the 7th Annual Bulls On the Beach event Friday and Saturday, September 7th and 8th.  With two nights of adrenaline pumping action, don’t miss your chance to get in the ring.

This invitation only rodeo has professional riders vying for prize money and a chance to compete in the Southeastern Circuit Finals.  Doors open at 6 pm, and the rodeo runs from 8-9:45 pm with plenty of fun for the whole family.

Get up close and personal with professional riders on Thursday, September 6th with Meet the Cowboys: Meet and Greet at the Old River Bar.  This one of a kind event allows fans to get up close to the professional wranglers, including local favorites Cody Harris and Chris “Booger” Brown, both stars of INSP Network’s “The Cowboy Way” from 6-9 pm across the street, at Flora-Bama’s Ole River Grill. Autographs and photos will be from 6-7 pm, then stick around for dinner and drinks.  Harris, a Robertsdale native, has also previously been featured previously in Country Music Television reality shows “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Southern Nights.”

Tickets are available now at www.florabama.com/tickets or in the Flora-Bama Gift Shop from Sept. 3-8, and proceeds will benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

On Friday, Bulls On the Beach and the Flora-Bama will be honoring all active military and veterans with a free drink at the door.  In addition, there will be drinks specials, live entertainment, and a special moment of thanks for those who serve and protect.

Saturday’s entertainment starts off with a bang at 3 pm with a Mechanical Bull Riding Contest, followed by public mechanical bull riding all night long.  Try it for $5 per person with a signed waiver.

The 1,800-seat outdoor arena will ensure prime viewing of the 8 pm event, although Harris said, “We’ll sell you the whole seat, but you’ll only need the edge,” when it comes to this adrenaline-filled, rock-and-roll rodeo.

Tickets for the show, which is sponsored by Jim Beam, Flora-Bama, and the Perdido Key Chamber & Visitors Center, are available online for $25 ($15 for ages 17 and under) at www.FloraBama.com or at the gate.  Enjoy both nights of action for just $40 for Adults, and $20 for Teens.

Ride the bus Saturday for only $3, 4 pm to 4 am.  Pick-up in Alabama is at the charter docks under the Perdido Pass Bridge and in Florida at the Winn-Dixie in Perdido Key.
