The Alabama-Florida state line and the Flora-Bama Lounge and Package in Perdido Key will erupt for three days of one of the nation’s biggest beach parties – the Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party. The event takes place this year April 27 – 29, 2018.

Known simply as the Mullet Toss, this year marks the 34th year of the festival, and the three-day beach bash welcomes tens of thousands of people from around the country.  Sure, thousands of people will gather at the beach behind the Flora-Bama to throw down, but it’s all about tossing a dead mullet from the state of Florida nearly into Orange Beach.

Those who want to compete in the mullet tossing competition do so in age and gender categories over the three days. And anyone can compete. How does it work? A “tosser” steps into an official circle at one end of the official course (typically surrounded by hundreds of spectators) then reach into a bucket, grab a dead mullet, heave back and throw the dead fish as far as you can.

What began as a reason to party on the beach in the shoulder season more than three decades ago has evolved into a phenomenon on the Alabama-Florida state line.  If you’ve never been to the Mullet Toss there’s a few things you should know. Below are the update rules to the 34th annual Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party:

Chairs around the Mullet Toss will be free and there will be areas blocked off for standing room.

As usual, personal beach chairs and tents are allowed on all Flora-Bama properties, free of charge. Limited space is available so first come, first served.

No outside coolers or alcohol can be brought onto Flora-Bama’s licensed property, but Flora-Bama will be selling beer in small coolers on the beach for customers and will have bars available on the beach for other beverages.

10×10 tent spaces are available for rent for $100 for the weekend on the Phoenix X beach from Ike’s Beach Service. Space renters will receive a separate wristband that is good for the Phoenix X beach area only. Contact Ike’s Beach Service at 251-948-3757.

Coolers are allowed in the Phoenix X beach area if the tent space is rented.

Access to Phoenix X condo will be limited to Phoenix X residents and renters. Wristbands will be issued to these people on site upon check in.

Flora-Bama wristband is good for entrance into Flora-Bama and Phoenix X beach. Phoenix X wristband does not get you into Flora-Bama.

No amplified music is allowed. No large speakers or DJ’s. Flora-Bama will be providing music and the Red Bull DJ will be on site playing music on the beach.

As always, must be 21 to drink.

Cover charge to Flora-Bama begins at 9am Fri-Sun, $10/day for 21 and up & $15 for 13-20 year olds, 12 & under are free, all ages until 6pm, then 21 and up.
