The reels are heating up as the lines hit the water this May 14th through the 19th at the 2019 Orange Beach Billfish Classic. The world’s largest tournament donor to the Billfish Foundation presented by American Custom Yachts and Costa, the OBBC began in 1996 for the sole purpose of providing financial support for organizations that speak effectively for recreational fishermen. Since its beginning, the OBBC has donated over $730,000 to the Billfish Foundation and other conservation organizations.
With optional categories that include tuna, wahoo, and Mahi, the main attraction is the catch and release of Blue Marlin and other large billfish. This Blue Marlin tournament attracts the best competitive fishing teams from all over the world, and pays out a whopping $10,000 to the winner take all category.
It all kicks off on Tuesday, May 14th with a Captain and Crew Dinner followed by kickoff party at Island Time Daiquiri. On Wednesday, May 15th, registration and Optional Cash Awards open under the big tent, and on Thursday, May 16th, boat may leave Perdido Pass and the fishing action begins at noon.
Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th, the public action begin as The Wharf in Orange Beach opens their scales for the weigh ins from 7 am to 10 pm. Fishing hours are continuous beginning at 12 noon on Thursday, May 16th. Boats must clear the Perdido Bridge or Sailboat Bay in Bon Secour by 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 18th in order to weigh in.
